Beverly Byrd, MD

- Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida-Jacksonville
Dr. Byrd is excited to care for women in the Yadkin Valley region at Hugh Chatham Women’s Center. She provides comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic services for every stage of a woman’s life, from the first gynecological exam, to the first pregnancy, through menopause and beyond. She also provides preventive care and education for your overall health and wellness.
Teresa Tharpe, GONP
Teresa is from Wilkes County and now lives in the State Road area. After receiving her nursing degree from UNC Chapel Hill, Teresa began work as a labor and delivery nurse at Hugh Chatham. With a growing interest in women’s health care, she completed the Obstetrical/Gynecological Nurse Practitioner Program at Emory University, becoming nationally certified in 1991. Teresa has received additional training in the evaluation of abnormal pap smears using colposcopy, uterine biopsy and IUD placement and ultrasound.
As a physician extender, Teresa provides comprehensive gynecological care including family planning/contraception counseling, treatment of abnormal bleeding and PAPs. She is also responsible for prenatal care of both routine and high-risk pregnancies.
Kristy Whitesides, Certified Nurse Midwife

Kristy’s past experience working as a labor and delivery nurse providing care for women and families ignited a passion for becoming a Certified Nurse-Midwife. She has dedicated herself to serving birthing women and their families. Her goal is to empower women to take the lead in their birth journey and to achieve a birth that ends with a healthy mother and baby. Each mother is special and each birth story is unique and she feels privileged to be a part of that journey. In her spare time, she enjoy spending time with her husband, Tim and three children, Mackenzie, Lainey and Josh. They love spending time at the lake and fishing.
Sybilla Howell, Certified Nurse Midwife
Meet Sybilla Howell and she is our new Certified Nurse Midwife. Sybilla was born and raised in North Carolina. All of her nursing education has been in North Carolina as well. She received her Masters of Nursing Midwifery from East Carolina University in 2013. Sybilla has been practicing as a Certified Nurse Midwife for 7 years now with over 400 births that she has attended. Most of her experience has been with a private practice, hospital birth model of care. Sybilla does have 2 years of experience with birth center births and postpartum home visits. Her whole nursing career has been focused on women and newborn health. Before midwifery school; Sybilla practiced as a registered nurse on labor and delivery for 14 years and decided that she wanted to become a midwife to better serve women.
Sybilla’s passion and hope is to give encouragement, compassion, knowledge and care to women and their families so they can make informed decision about their health and the care they desire. She looks back at her experience with childbirth and wishes she had been told about options and what to expect. She has heard from many of her clients that they just want to be heard. It is Sybilla’s goal to: listen to her clients, help them be a part of their birth and their care.
